About Abhilasha Samiti

Abhilasha Samiti, Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand) is a voluntary non-governmental organization established in 2007 (informally) and registered in 2019 under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860. We are dedicated to empowering rural communities through education, healthcare, livelihood promotion, biodiversity conservation, and social awareness.

🌍Key Programs

 

Abhilasha Academy(Didihat) – Providing education and skill training to rural and tribal children.

PMKSY 2.0 – Focused on irrigation development, spring-shed management, and accounting training for local communities.

CAMPA Project – Supporting nursery development and livelihood enhancement through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

Fire-Free Himalaya Campaign – Promoting forest fire prevention and community awareness for environmental protection.

Van Panchayat Planning – Developing management plans for 1,650 Van Panchayats (forest councils) in Pithoragarh district.

Microplanning Project – Creating detailed development plans for 175 villages in Champawat district.

Eco-Livelihood Projects – Encouraging sustainable livelihoods through eco-tourism initiatives like the Jim Corbett Eco Trail.

Cultural Exchange Program – Conducted in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra to promote youth engagement and cultural awareness.

History and Background

Established informally in 2007–2008 and formally registered in 2019–2020 under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860, ABHILASHA SAMITI is a national-level voluntary organization dedicated to community development. Active across rural and urban areas of Pithoragarh and nearby districts such as Champawat, Almora, and Bageshwar, the Samiti works to strengthen rural livelihoods, empower women, promote health awareness, conserve biodiversity, and preserve cultural heritage. It also leads awareness campaigns on the Right to Education, fights human trafficking, and supports Self Help Groups through skill and employment-oriented training for sustainable growth.

Genesis of the Organization

Although organization has been registered recently in 2020, because of its working in unofficial shape for a long time it has developed a big team of trained and experienced workers. The number of rural development workers/resource persons is 18; training staff in different Project is 07. Thus, total number of workers is 25.
